Ingredients
290g butter
290g caster sugar
290g self raising flour
145g plain flour
5 eggs
Method
Preheat the oven to 160°C/320°F /gas 3 (adjust for fan assisted). Grease and flour the cake tin
Cream the sugar and butter together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy
Beat in the eggs one at a time then sieve in the flour
Pour the cake mix into the tin and bake in the centre of the oven on a baking tray for approximately 60 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a skewer inserted into the deepest part of the cake comes out clean
Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes in the tin and then turn out on to a wire rack to cool
When cool carefully level off the base, before decorating
